Delivery Notes + How to Build a Great Fire

Thanks for choosing Tyler’s Firewood Delivery.
This page covers (1) quick delivery prep, and (2) a simple guide to building a great fire.

Section 1: Delivery Prep Checklist (fast + clear)

✅ Before Delivery

1) Clear access for a large dump trailer
Please move vehicles and clear the delivery area so we can back in safely.

2) Unlock gates + clear the path
Make sure gates are unlocked and the route to the drop spot is free of hoses, equipment, toys, or debris.

3) Send a quick photo (highly appreciated)
A photo helps our driver confirm the exact drop location and saves time.

Best photo examples:

  • Your driveway looking toward the drop spot

  • The gate/access point (if you have one)

  • The exact place you want the wood dropped/stacked

Text the photo to the same number you received delivery messages from.

🚚 Delivery Updates

You’ll receive:

  • A message the day before delivery

  • Another message when we’re on the way

Section 2: Firewood Notes (quick, useful info)

Seasoned wood + storage

  • Store wood off the ground (pallets or rack is ideal)

  • Keep the top covered, but leave the sides open for airflow

  • If there has been rain recently or the wood is wet with rain bring a small batch inside for a few hours if it’s very cold/wet outside (helps it light easier).

  • If it's very wet then make sure you bring 10-12 pieces inside and let a fan blow on the fire. The wood will be ready to burn by the next night. Cycle more wood in as you burn it and the stack outside will dry more as the humidity drops between storms.

If your wood feels “hard to light”

That’s usually airflow or fire-building (not the wood). Use the fire method below.

Section 3: One-Match Fire Method (Top-Down) 🔥

This method is clean, reliable, and usually lights with one match.

Steps

  1. Open the damper (fully)

  2. Place 2–3 larger logs on the bottom (leave small gaps)

  3. Add 1–2 medium logs crosswise on top

  4. Add a loose pile of kindling on top

  5. Place 1 fire starter (or a small piece of fatwood) at the very top

  6. Light the starter once and let it burn downward

  7. Add a larger log only after it’s burning steadily

Pro tip (for smoky startups)

If the chimney is cold, warm the flue first: light a rolled-up newspaper and hold it up near the damper for ~10–15 seconds.
